The apartment is situated in the centre of Palma, on one of the most luxurious and popular shopping streets, in a classic building which dates back more than forty years. Located on the third floor of this building, the apartment covers 250m2 over one floor and overlooks an interior courtyard.

The apartment had not been touched since its first construction and therefore had to be completely demolished. As is usual in these types of homes there were a great many dividing walls between many small spaces and in consequence it appeared to be much smaller and darker. Connecting the sitting room, dining room and kitchen for example or taking away the doors to the hall let in more natural light and gave the feeling of spaciousness.

The only part which was maintained and restored was the wood carpentry on the façades, all the other older installations had become completely obsolete.

The clients, a family with three children, had a very clear idea of what they wanted, to create a spacious home full of light, with a classic but simple design. So the main elements were chosen; the herringbone wood floors, anthracite carpentry and molded panels.

These three elements combined with the veined marble and brass give a classic, elegant but simple look which was the aim from the beginning and not wanting to overload with unnecessary decoration.

The most important concept of this interior design project was to give importance to the natural materials that were used and are reflected throughout the home in the various elements, which were all made to measure.

There is very little furniture as most of the elements have been made to measure and therefore it was not necessary to use many decorative pieces. The same materials are repeated throughout the home, for example the marble fireplace, bathrooms, kitchen or friezes, creating an unified atmosphere.

The brass lamps are a very special element in the home, various models have been used from the Mallorquin brand Contain, and can be found in the sitting room, bedroom and main bathroom. All have been hand made in Mallorca and fit perfectly into this project.

The kitchen, as with the rest of the fixed furniture, has been designed specifically for this home. Th design is by Jorge Bibiloni Studio and carried out by Estils i Formes. The colour of the anthracite and veined marble are the focal points.
